Wedding Day Details

Shooting wedding day details requires a wedding photographer to understand many things.  The most important parts of shooting wedding day details are:

  1. How to properly light your subject
  2. How to compose a compelling image
  3. What lens to choose when shooting small details
  4. What lens to choose when shooting larger details
  5. When in the wedding day schedule does this occur?
  6. Troubleshooting common issues with shooting wedding details

Susan Stripling will take you through each aspect of shooting wedding day details in a real-life atmosphere.  You will learn how to shoot:

  • Engagement rings
  • Wedding bands
  • Wedding flowers/the bride’s bouquet
  • Bride’s shoes
  • Bridal gown
  • Reception tables

This comprehensive video, exclusive to members of The Wedding School, will demystify shooting wedding day details.  Susan will cover what lenses you should use for all aspects of shooting wedding day details.  She will take you through the shutter speed, focal length, ISO, and f-stop needed to capture these important details for your wedding clients.  She will cover all technical details before you start shooting, so that you can walk into any wedding day with confidence!

Susan will help you figure out the right lighting pattern for any detail scenario. She will discuss how the light affects the final image.  She will talk about choosing a proper foreground and background to capture compelling detail images.  No longer will you wonder where to set a wedding ring or where to hang a wedding dress for a detail shot!

After that, Susan will lead you through several real-life wedding day detail scenarios.  She will shoot wedding rings, the bride’s shoes, the bridal bouquet, and the wedding dress in scenes that look just like a real wedding day.  It’s important to us at The Wedding School that we provide you with very realistic shooting scenarios.  This way you’ll be able to easily apply them to the next wedding that you shoot!  Susan will also discuss shooting reception room details, and how to properly light and execute a room shot.

The video will close with common troubleshooting scenarios and how to avoid them at all costs!  Susan spent quite a bit of time polling wedding photographers for their common and most stressful wedding detail issues, and covers the answers to each one in great detail.  How do you get enough time on the wedding day to shoot these images?  What happens if something goes wrong?  When this video is over, you won’t have any lingering questions about these tricky scenarios!

Shooting wedding day details is something that all wedding photographers have to do.  Some photographers love capturing these images.  Some don’t, and find this part of the day particularly stressful.  After you watch this video from The Wedding School, all your questions will be answered!  You’ll have new information to go into any wedding day and shoot wedding details with confidence!

  1. On Aperture Priority, how does your Shutter speed stay the same? I usually shoot in manual but when i shoot in AP, my shutter speed changes, but my auto ISO doesn’t change that much. How do you keep your ISO the same when your changing your aperture? Thanks

    1. On my Canon 5dMkIII there is a setting for minimum shutter speed on the second red menu in ISO speed settings. Set it and it will adjust lower until it reaches the minimum keeping your ISO low. It will stay until your ISO has maxed out to your set max. The then Tv will drop if necessary. Nikon I am sure has a similar setting

    2. Michael, if you want to set both your aperture priority and your shutter speed, you’ll have to switch over to Manual mode. You can’t control your shutter speed when in AP. Only your aperture setting remains constant when in this mode!

  2. I have shot weddings for awhile, but the practical steps put into this tutorial is awesome, now am thinking really differently. and approaching every step with confidence. I don’t regret signing up for this course.

    1. Hi Katherine! We have many videos here at The Wedding School that deal with artificial light (both video light and flash) and how to work in dim locations!

  4. I have only shot a handful of weddings but I love to shoot details and everything that I see that looks important. This is the first series I have watched since I signed up yesterday and I can truly say I love it so far!! Great information to help fine tune my approach.

  5. Great video series! Learning about capturing details is not something most photography teachers would teach about as it is overlooked by most photographers, including myself. I’m so glad I invested my time and money into the wedding school!

  6. Me and My wife are so exited to do the Wedding School :)…we have done weddings off and on but really need a helping hand in the Marketing side. We have always loved your natural lighting approach.
